I never thought I'd write a sentence that included Robert Plant, singer in the legendary heavy rock band Led Zeppelin, and the Prince of Wales, heir to the British throne and owner of the legendary jug ears. As to the two meeting, unimaginable.
But today Prince Charles did the honours at Buckingham Palace today for Plant, who was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen's New Year's Honours List.
The CBE is just one step down from a knighthood. If Plant keeps his nose clean perhaps one day he'll be Sir Robert following in the footsteps of Sir Elton and Sir Paul.
How could my hero become a member of the Establishment? It makes me feel a tad sad and a tad old.
What next? Sir Ozzy Osbourne?

20 WHAT SAY YOU?:
Me too. I felt the same way when Mick sold out. "Hey, you, get offa my cloud!"
Plant? A knight! Sweet Jeezus, that is so totally bizarre.
D'you think maybe he's photoshopped in the magazines? He looks incredibly old and worn out in that picture.
Sir Ozzy Osbourne?????? Nah I can't see it meself. LOL
No his best picture. I'm with you on the tad sad side.
I think Sir Ozzy is something we won't see this side of the Bat-Cave, Lady Sharon now... There's a possibility!
I want to see Sir Mick Fleetwood, and Sir John McVie - Is that asking too much??!
Royalty and commemorative jugs aside, I like that they are being recognised, at least, for the legends that they are... Does that make sense...
Dumdad, a few of us are writing about the turmoil of parenting teens over at Mad Manic Mamas (it's for dads and anyone who's cared for teens and tweens, too!)
I'd appreciate your thoughts, and if you'd like to join us as an occasional contributor, if you fancy, that would be tremendous...
All the best for a Parisian Weekend!
Alas we will never see Sir Sid Vicious-.
I don't know why you are surprised, Dumdad, Isn't the Prince of Wales famous for talking to Plants?
Yeah I hate it when heroes from my youth get old and sensible and crusty - or die or something - it makes me feel like an era has passed and I'm not young any more. It is a bit pants, I agree. Unlike Akelamalu, I don't think it's completely out of the question that Ozzy will receive royal approval - he seems to have become awfully nice and into slippers and cups of tea nowadays.
Sir ozzy osbourne? give it another 10 years, i wouldn't be at all surprised.
how about sir john lydon?
O Dumdad, as he leaves the palace and travels to his country estate and then goes fly fishing in his private river, that's Robert not Charles !. Rock is not what it was..........
A day late and a dollar short, but.....HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
Ozzy? Slippers and cups of tea?? What is the world coming to.....
What is the world coming to? But please - NOT Sir Ozzy.. that would be too much to bear!
Hi Dumdad, There's an award for you over at mine! I'm trying to think who refused a knighthood but the name and face escapes me (not for the first time...)
My god, aren't we all getting old!
It is a bit sad isn't it. And I love Martin's comment above. Spot on.
Nice to see he smartened himself up for the occasion...
This was total news to me. I remember seeing Led Zep years and years ago and thought they were a tremendous live band. How odd that Plant has an Honour - I wonder why him and not Mr Page
It's not as undignified as Johnny Rotten advertising Country Life Butter - or is it?
Thanks for the smile - Sir Ozzy(?)and a belated Happy Cancerian Birthday to you(I've been catching up on weeks of blogs, including Miranda's, where I noted this fact!
